MARTHA JONES CADWALADER. PHILADELPHIA COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA.
The CADWALADER family is of anciant Welsh ancestry. John Cadwalader, born in Penllyn, Merionethshire, circa 1677/78; died in Philadelphia, 23 July, 1734; was educated at Pembroke, Wales, and in 1697 immigrated to America from Pembrokeshire, North Wales, and settled in Merion, Pennsylvania; 13th July 1705, was admitted a freeman of the city of Philadelphia. Elected to the Common Council, 1718, and was an active member of that body until 28th January 1733-34.From 1729 to 1734 was one of the representatives of Philadelphia County in the Privisional Assembly.
Married 29th December, 1699 at the Friends' Meeting, Lower Merion, Philadelphia County to Martha Jones (died 16th April 1747) daughter of Dr. Edward Jones, one of the earliest practitioners of medicine in the Province, by his wife, Mary Wynne, daughter of Thomas Wynne, "Chirurgeon," from Caerwys, Flintshire, Wales, who came over with Penn in the "Welcome" and was speaker of the three General Assemblies.
