MRS. JANE FOULKE HUGHES. OLEY, BERKS COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA.

Jane was the daughter of immigrants Edward and Eleanor 'Hughes' Foulke. She came to America with her parents on board the 'Robert and Elizabeth' in 1698 and settled in Gwynedd, Pennsylvania.

She married her first cousin Ellis Hughes and sometime after moved from where they then lived in Gwynedd to Exeter where she was appointed an Elder in which station she continued to serve to the end (about 30 years).

Jane and Ellis had 7 children:
1. John B. Hughes - b. 19 May 1714
2. William Hughes - b. 16 Feb 1716
3. Ann Hughes - b. 1717
4. Rowland Hughes - b. 29 May 1720
5. Samuel Hughes - b. 10 May 1722
6. Edward Hughes - b. 26 Apr 1724
7. Margaret Hughes - b. 14 Apr 1726

After Ellis' death, Jane lived with their daughter, Margaret, and son-in-law, Samuel Lee of Oley until she died in 1766.

MRS. JANE FOULKE HUGHES. OLEY, BERKS COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA.

Jane (her birth is given in the Exeter monthly meeting records as 11th mo. 10, 1684, but this clashes eith the date assigned as the birth of her brother Thomas, by other authority, - 6th mo. 7, 1685). She m. 4th mo. 5, 1713, Ellis Hugh (Hughes), son of John Hugh of Geynedd. They removed to Oley, noe Berks county.

From them are descended the numerous families od that name spread through Oley, Exeter, Maidencreek, and the settlements on the north branch of the Susquehanna.

Jane d. 8th mo. 7, 1766, at the home of her son in law, Samuel Lee, in Oley. She had been "an elder of Exeter m.m. for about thirty years."

Her husband, Ellis b. 1687, d. 1st mo. 11, 1764.

Exeter records show the following children of this couple : John, William, Rowland, Samuel, Edward and Margaret.
