MR. DAVID H. ROBERTS. RUBY HILL, EUREKA COUNTY, NEVADA.
A Useful Citizen Passed Away.
The hand of death has been placed on one of Ruby Hill's best citizens, by which David H. Roberts has been called to his last long home. "Dave," as his friends familiarly called him, was a man who had earned great credoit for himself, and was one of a kind that in his humble sphere is of the greatest benefit to a mining camp, but whose usefulness is but seldom recognized. He came here from Lehigh, Pennsylvania, early in the seventies and has since then followed the occupation of a miner on Ruby Hill and in other parts of the camp. He was an energetic and industrious man and the owner of two or three mines, with very good prospects. They are situated on Prospect Mountain, and to develop them he worked assiduously, putting in his labor from early dawn until late at night, month in and month out, until he was compelled to work for wages to replenish his store of provisions and working materials.
He was finally taken down with what is known as miners' consumption, from which he suffered for about sixteen months. He was always sanguine of success in his mines and incessantly reiterated his hope that silver would go to par once more. Poor Davey! he has driven his last drift and has gone to where there is is no discount on silver, but where we hope he will receive a well-earned reward for his labor on earth.
He leaves a wife, three children and a brother, with whom we sincerily console. He was a native of Caernarvonshire, North Wales, and aged 39 years.
