JOHN R. HUGHES, PROSPECT, ONEIDA COUNTY, NEW YORK.
Monday morning, May 25th 1891, at Remsen, New York, Mr. John R. Hughes, at the age of 82 years.His disease was pneumonia, which in less than a week proved fatal. He survived his brother, Mr. Hugh Hughes only 5 weeks. Like his brother he had been born at Rhydlios, Lleyn, Carnarvonshire, North Wales, and came to America in 1818 and settled as farmer at the Nant in the vicinity of Remsen.
He had been for many years an honoured elder in the C. M. Church, and in the best days distinguished as a man of more than ordinary ability and force of character.
He is survived by two sons and two daughters, who deeply mourn his loss.
The funeral services took place on Wednesday following, Revs. E. C. Evans and Edward Thomas officiating. The remains were interres at the Prospect cemetery.
