MR. HUGH TUDOR ARTHUR. COLUMBUS JUNCTION, LOUISA COUNTY, IOWA.

The late Hugh Tudor Arthur was one of the the Welsh pioneers at the Long Creek settlement in Louisa county, Iowa.

He was a descendant on his mother's side of Owen Tudor, the father of King Henry the VII, who founded the House of Tudor, in which were the strongest kings and queens that ever ruled in England.

Mr. Arthur was born June 7th, 1835, at a place called Brynllwyd, near Corris, North Wales. In 1844 he emigrated with the family to this country and settled on a farm where both his parents and himself died.

On September 27th, 1866, he married Miss Elizabeth J. Jones, whose parents were natives of Pennal, North Wales. Of the eight children born to them, five are living.

Mr. Arthur's mother was a sister to the late William and Richard Tudor, Cincinnati, Ohio, of the firm of Tudor Boiler Manufacturing Co., who were highly esteemed for their business enterprise and personal integrity - qualities which were conspicuous also in the Arthur branch of the family.

Mr. Arthur was a prosperous farmer, a plain honest, just and outspoken man, and generous toward any worthy cause, especially the C. M. Welsh church, in which as a deacon he faithfully served. He never had a very strong constitution. He died of pneumonia on the 25th January, 1896, and was buried at the Cambrian Cemetery.

"Well done, thou good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things. I will make thee ruler over many things; enter thou into the joy of the Lord."

MR. HUGH TUDOR ARTHUR. COLUMBUS JUNCTION, LOUISA COUNTY, IOWA.

HUGH T. ARTHUR, a pioneer Louisa County, Iowa, of 1844, residing on section 32, Columbus City Township, was born in North Wales. June 7th, 1837, and is a son of William and Catharine (Tudor) Arthur, who were also natives of the same country. In June, 1844, when a lad of seven years, he emigrated to America with his parents, and the following month came to Louisa County, where the father purchased 120 acres of land on section 32, Columbus City Township. This farm William Arthur cultivated and improved, making it his home until his death, which occurred in 1809, leaving five children: Ann, now the wife of John Richards, of this county; Hugh T., the subject of this sketch; Jane, who wedded William Williams, a farmer of Louisa County ; Catherine, wife of Samuel Jones, whose home is in Montgomery County, Iowa, and Elizabeth, wife of Henry Thomas, also of Montgomery County.

Our subject was reared upon the farm which still continues to be his home, and on the 27th of September, 1866, was united in marriage with Elizabeth J. Jones, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, and a daughter of Humphhrey Jones, who was born in Wales. They are the parents of eight children, five of whom are living — William, Evan H., John Richard and Katie Ann, all at home. Those deceased are Sarah Jane, Humphrey and an infant.

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur are members of the Welsh Calvinistic Church, in which he served as one of the excess committee, and in all the work of that organization they take great interest.

In his political views he is a Republican. He is the owner of 288 acres of land, while Mrs. Arthur has 158 acres in her name. They are both highly respected citizens of Columbus City Township, and held in high esteem by a large circle of friends.

MR. HUGH TUDOR ARTHUR. LONG CREEK, IOWA.

Ionawr 25ain, 1896, yn Long Creek, Iowa, Hugh T. Arthur, mab William a Catherine (Tudor) Arthur, a nai, fab chwaer, i William a Richard Tudor, o'r Tudor Boiler Manufacturing Company, Cincinnati, Ohio.

Ganwyd Hugh T. Arthur yn Brynllwyd, ger Corris, Sir Feirionydd, Gogledd Cymru, Mehefin 7fed, 1835.

Ymfudodd gyda'r teulu i'r wlad hon yn 1844, gan ymsefydlu ar fferm yn Long Creek, lle y bu ei dad farw yn 1870, a'i fam yn 1892.

Medi 27ain, 1866, ymbriododd ef â Miss Elizabeth Jane Jones, merch Humphrey a Sarah Jones, brodolion o blwyf sir Feirionydd, Gogledd Cymru.

Ganwyd iddynt wyth o blant, o'r rhai y mae pump yn fyw i gydalaru a'u mam am briod a thad anwyl a thirion. Bendithiwyd hwy â helaethrwydd o bethau y byd presenol, ac ni buont hwythau yn anniolchgar, canys yr oedd eu gofal yn fawr am achos yr Arglwydd.

Yr oedd teulu H. T. Arthur gyda'r rhai cyntaf a sefydlasant yr eglwys Gynnuileidfaol Gymreig yn yr ardal hon, haner can mlynedd yn ôl. Pan ymneilldaodd y Trefnyddiou Calfinaidd, gan sefydlu achos o'r eiddynt eu hunain yn 1861 yr oeddynt hwy gyda'r ddeadell hono, a daeth H. J. Arthur yn aelod o honi yn fuan wedi hyny. Pan gychwynwyd y gangen-eglwys, Bethel, penodwyd ef ac eraill i oruwcholygu yr achos hyd 1895, pryd y dewiswyd ef a dau eraill yn flaenoriaid.

Prif deithi ei gymeriad oeddent gonestrwydd, plaender a ffyddlondeb. Meddai pawb a'i hadwaenai bob ymddiried yn ei amcanion. Corff gwanaidd oedd ganddo, yn neillduol y deng mlynedd diweddaf. Dechreuodd glafychu o'r clefyd y bu farw o hono tua bythefnos yn flaenorol. Gwnaeth ymdrech i fyned i gyfarfod Jubilee yr eglwys Gynulleidfaol, ac o hyny allan gwaelodd gan y pneumonia, nes yr ehedodd ei ysbryd ffyddlon at yr hwn a'i rhoes. Dydd Llun canlynol ymgynullodd tyrfa fawr iawn i hebrwng weddillion i dŷ ei hir gartref, pryd y gweinyddwyd gan y Parchn. R. Hughes, Lloyd Williams a'r ysgrifenydd.

Cynaliwyd gwasanaeth pellach yn y capel y Sabboth. Ceir manylion pellach am ein brawd yn y Cyfaill.
