MR. ROBERT P. JONES. UTICA, ONEIDA COUNTY, NEW YORK.
Robert P Jones, an esteemed Welsh resident of this city, died at his residence, No. 20 Broadway, at 5:20 o'clock yesterday afternoon. He had been ill only a week. Several days ago he contracted a bad cold, which later developed into pneumonia, causing his death.His family , including his aged wife, and with the exception of one daughter who resides in Wales, was at his bedside when he died. Death was somewhat unexpected as he had only been confined to bed since Sunday.
The deceased was in the 72nd year of his age, and was highly respected by all that knew him. He was born in Carnarvonshire, Wales, where he learned the blacksmith trade.
Sixteen years ago he came to this country, locating at Litchfield, where he remained until 11 years ago. He had been a resident of this city for the last 5 years. While in Utica he held the position as sexton of the Welsh Baptist Church, Broadway, of which he was an active member.
He was married to Miss Margaret Williams in Wales 49 years ago. Besides his wife he is survived by the following children: Mrs. John B. Jones (Elizabeth) of Whitesboro, Mrs. Robert Jones (Martha) of Wales, Mrs. John Morrison (Ellen) of Canada, and Mrs. John J. Hughes (Judith), Mrs. Joseph Irving (Sarah) and Robert Jones of Utica. He also leaves one sister and one brother in Wales.
The funeral will be held from the church this Saturday afternoon. Interment will be made in this city.
