MR. HUGH M. OWENS. HARPER HOSPITAL, DETROIT, MICHIGAN.

August 2nd, 1899, at Harper Hospital, Detroit, Michigan, Mr. Hugh M. Owens, after a short but very painful illness. He was taken sick on Thursday, July 27th, but did not have a doctor till the following day. He continued getting worse and on the following Monday evening on the advice of friends was taken to the Hospital here. Although he had the best doctors in the city yet they gave no hope for his recovery. He suffered great pain but remained concious to the end.

He and his only brother Evan Owens have stayed with Mrs. Edwin Edwards, 9 Lyman Place since theiraxrival in Detroit a little over a year ago, and after his death his body was removed to her home.

The funeral took place on Friday at 2 o'clock, Rev. J. M. Barkley his pastor officiating. He was buried in Woodmere Cemetery in Mr. E. D. Jones (Cass Ave.) lot. Mr. Jones very kindly offered this place for him. And the Welsh people and especially the brother feel deeply grateful to him for this kindness.

Mr. Owens came to this country from Pentir, near Bangor, in August 1891, and settled in Avoca, Pennsylvania.

Here he married but buried his wife within two years.

In 1895 he went to Plymouth where he remained for three: years and in the spring of 1898 came to Detroit. From the letters he brought to the church here from Plymouth it was very evident that he was very active in church work, and during his short stay here, although very quiet yet he was always willing to do what he could. Since coming to Detroit he has worked at the Acme White Lead Works and that he was well thought of by his fellow workers was shown by the beautiful floral piece sent to his funeral.

Mr. Owen Ellis the Supt. of the works, did all in his power for him during his sickness andi was with him day and night. Our sympathy is extended to his young brother who is left with no near relative. May the Lord that sustained the departed be also the portion of the lonely brother.
