REV. JOHN HUGHES PARRY, UTICA NEW YORK.

Rev. John Hughes Parry . It is with deep sorrow that we learn of the early death of our beloved brother, the able and beloved pastor of Moriah Church, Utica, New York.

In his death the Christian Endeavor movement loses one of its best friends and most earnest supporters. Mr. Parry was born September 9, 1844, at Fron heulog, Dinorwic, North Wales, a son of Ann and Henry Parry - a faithful deacon with the Calvinistic Methodists at that place for fifty - two years. He was educated at the Normal School, Bangor, and became an able teacher for some years.

After preaching as a licentiate for some years, in 1873 he was installed pastor of the Welsh church at Crewe. After four years he became pastor of an English church at Trallwm for three years. He was then called to the pastorate of an English church at Oswestry, where he labored for eight years. His next field was a Welsh chorch at Holyhead, Anglesey, where he ministered until he took charge of Morial Church about five years ago.

He had been suffering more or less from catarrh of the bowels, and was advised by his physicians to fast for seven weeks. But the ordeal was too much for his strength, and he succumbed, - after rallying enough to visit his cousin in Vermont, dying Tuesday, August 8, 1899, while near his fifty-fifth birthday, leaving to mourn after him wife and three children, two brothers and one sister, together with a large host of sincere friends.

Memorial services were held at Poultney, Vermont, and then in his church at Utica, from which place he was taken to his earthly rest. The manifestations of respect and sympathy were very marked in every way. The other churches and societies of Utica and representatives from abroad joined with those of Moriah in the obsequies.

It was in June, 1893, at the Racine Synod, that we first met and heard Mr. Parry. He was in the same place, at the Christian Endeavor convention, Christmas, 1897. His sermons, manner, and spirit at both visits to Wisconsin made for him hundreds of friends among the most serious people. We shall all miss him greatly; and we extend our deepest sympathy to his beloved wife, his children, and his church.
