REV. LLEWELYN DAVID HOWELL,UTICA, ONEIDA COUNTY, NEW YORK.

Congregational minister, author, and eisteddfodwr; born at Tŷ Mawr, Llanuwchllyn, Merioneth.

He emigrated to the USA in 1832 and settled in Utica, New York. He became prominent as an eisteddfodwr and as a patron of 'Cymdeithas yr Hen Frythoniaid', a Welsh society which had been established at Utica in 1824; he was president of this society in 1842. He won a prize at the Utica eisteddfod, 2nd January, 1860, for an essay which was published the same year, at Rome, New York, under the title of Traithawd ar Ddechreuad a Chynnydd y Cymry yn Utica a'i Hamgylchedd.

He died 13th Jult, 1864; a memoir, by Edward Davies, Waterville was published in 1866.
