MR. WILLIAM ROBERTS, STEUBEN, ONEIDA COUNTY, NEW YORK.
William Roberts, from Llaniestyn, North Wales, in 1818, died in Remsen March 27th, 1866, aged eighty-five years; Elizabeth, his wife, died December 23rd, 1869, aged eighty-one years.A narrative history of Remsen, New York.
MR. WILLIAM ROBERTS, STEUBEN, ONEIDA COUNTY, NEW YORK.
I William Roberts of the village and town of Remsen, County of Oneida and state of New York, this 18th day of May in the year of our Lord and Saviour 1864, do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following :First. I give and bequeath my Household Furniture and Stock to my beloved wife Elizabeth Roberts, together with the legal Interest of all my property both real estate and personal property of what nature and kind soever, to be hers fully and without reserve during the time of her natural life besides any other Legacy hereinafter named. And should she need any of the principal besides Interest as aforesaid for her comfortable maintenance and support, it is my will and desire that my Executor should see that she may have it, so as to keep her above any want or discomfort. And after the decease of my beloved wife aforesaid Elizabeth Roberts, I give and bequeath my property to the persons and in the manner following namely;
I give, bequeath and devise my dwelling house in the village of Remsen and its appurtenances, as it may exist after the decease of my wife aforesaid, with the lot or lots of land on which it stands and connected with it - being about 140 or 150 feet wide and about 120 feet deep be the same more or less together with that other certain lot or parcel of land joining the same and being easterly of it, heretofore conveyed to me by Griffith James of Remsen, to my niece Mary Owens of the town of Trenton, New York, (daughter of Evan and Ann Owen) and to her heirs and assigns for ever.
Also, I give and bequeath to my niece Elizabeth Jones, wife of William R. Jones of the neighbourhood of Nelson, Madison County, New York, the sum of twelve hundred dollars.
Also, I give and bequeath to my nephew William Owens the sum of fifty dollars.
Also, I give and bequeath to my nephew Thomas Owens and Evan Owens the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars each.
Also, I give and bequeath to William Edmunds, son of the late Thomas and Jane Edmunds of Remsen the sum of one hundred dollars.
Also, I give and bequeath to my sister Ann Owens the sum of fifteen dollars a year to be paid her during the term of her natural life, the period of the annuity to commence from the time of my decease.
Also, I give and bequeath to the children of the late Richard James of Trenton, New York, viz. to Sarah James, Mary James, Robert James and William James the sum of two hundred dollars to be equally divided betweenthem share and share alike.
Also, I give and bequeath to Mrs. Elizabeth Everett, wife of Rev. Robert Everett the sum of two hundred dollars.
All the above legacies to become due (with the exception of the one to my sister Ann Owens named above) in one year after the decease of my wife aforesaid.
Also, I give, bequeath and devise all the residue of any proprty whether real estate or personal peoperty of what nature and kind soever to my beloved wife Elizabeth Roberts aforesaid to be disposed of by her by her own Will and Testament or in way or form she may wish to desire.
And finally, should there be of any residue left after the decease of my wife Elizabeth Roberts aforesaid which she may not have disposed of in any way whether real estate or personal property, I hereby give, bequeath and desire the same to the regularly appointed agent or agents of an Educational Society which I wish and desire may be formed, and which shall be the nucleus of a Permanent Fund, the legal interest of which shall be used towards the education of indigent pious and talented young men (of Welsh descent) as candidate for the gospel ministry in the Congregational Communion, said fund to be under the care and management of suitable men who shall be appointed by Conventions in said Congregational Communion from time to time for said purpose.
And I hereby constitute and appoint my trusty friend Henry Roberts of Utica, Executor of this my last Will and Testament. And I hereby give my Executor full and ample legal power to sell and convey for the benefit of my wife or other legatees, any other real estate or any interest in Railroad or Mortgages which I may own or possess at the time of my decease according to his own judgement and discretion.
