MRS. ELIZABETH JONES LEWIS. PORTAGE, COLUMBIA COUNTY, WISCONSIN.
Mrs. H. O. Lewis died at 2.30 o'clock this afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fred Moore, in Rhinelander, after several months illness, of heart disease. Her case had been known to be hopeless for many weeks.Mr. and Mrs. Lewis went to Rhinelander last October to visit their daughter and their son B. R. Lewis. Not long afterward Mrs. Lewis was taken sick.
J. C. Lewis of Antigo and H. G. Lewis of Portage, both well known hardware merchants, are sons of the decedant. The aged husband and the entire family were gathered at Mrs. Lewis' bedside during her final hours. She was unconsious for some time before the end.
Mrs. Lewis was born in Wales 76 years ago. She and her husband have been residents of Portage since the early fifties. They were the only surviving charter members of the First M. E. Church of Portage, which was organised in 1852. Mrs. Lewis was held in high esteem by the entire community.
The remains will be brought to Portage for burial.
