MR. GRIFFITH J. WILLIAMS, CAMBRIDGE MASSACHUSETTS.

OBITUARY.

A telegram was received in this city yesterday afternoon from Cambridge Massachusetts, announcing the death of Griffith J. Williams yesterday morning at that city. His age was about sixty. He had been ailing for several months, and suffered untold pain from stomach trouble.

He was born at Dyffryn, Merioneth, North Wales, but his parents removed to Portmadoc in the adjoining county of Carnarvon when he was very young. He received a good common school education and learned the ship brokerage business with his father, Bennett Williams.

He emigrated to the United States in the spring of 1868 and came direct to Racine, where some of his relatives had preceded him. For some time he was employed by the old firm of Vaughn and Williams. During his stay here he made many friends, for he had many traits for sociability, kindness of heart and great intelligence. Subsequently he removed to Emporis, Kansas, where he remained several years, and in meantime married to Elizabeth Jones, also a native of Wales. Again he removed to to Boston Massachusetts, and became interested in the slate roofing business, which he followed until the present time, with a good degree of success.

A year ago he visited his uncle Thomas L. Williams, and his other relatives Robert W Rowlands, Lewis Evans and their families at Racine. He made a stay of three weeks, and enjoyed the visit immensely, renewing old aquaintanances and maiking many new ones. He was not feeling very well then, and during the summer months grew worse, although he was able to get around and attend to his business, till within a short period of his death. He leaves a wife, one son, two daughters and five grandchildren to mourn his loss.

He was very active in every matter that had a tendency to uplift, and the betterment of humanity. His fellow countrymen in Boston and vicinity will greatly miss him, as they looked up to him to lead in many good movements.
