MR. PIERCE SAMUAL ROBERTS. NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA.

ENGINEER KILLED BY CAR.

Pierce Roberts, fourth engineer of the steamship Norseman of the Northern Line, was almost instantly killed by a Dryaden street car in Canal Street in front of the Post Office building last night at 12 o'clock. The body of the man was terribly mangled and the right leg was almost cut off by the wheels of the car.

According to Motorman A. F. Roig, the man started to cross the tracks while the car was bearing swiftly upon him, and before the brakes could be applied he was struck and knocked beneath the wheels.

Hughes Roberts, brother of the dead man, was with him at the time of the accident. The two were on their way to their ship, lying off the Stuyvesant dock.

Officers at the First Presinct Police Station were notified and the body was taken to the morgue.
