Welsh Pioneer and Cahrter Member of Arion Club Passes away.
December 27th - William G. Davies, one of the oldest Welshmen in Milwaukee and a charter member of Arion Musical Club, died at his home, 378 Jackson street at 11 o'clock Sunday night, after a long illness.Born in Bethesda, Wales, on 6th November 1835, he emigrated to America, landing in Boston in 1844, where he remained eleven years, coming to Milwaukee in 1855. In 1861 he married Miss Katherine James, daughter of one of the earliest Welsh settlers. Interested in music, he took an active and prominent part in all musical Welsh gatherings in this pa\rt of the country. In his younger days he was a chorister of the Grand Avenue Methodist Episcopal church, then called the Spring Street church, and also of the First Baptist church. He had been a member of the F. and A. M. since 1864.
Mr. Davies is survived by his wife and two daughters, Mrs Daniel E. Davies, 715 Stowell avenue, and Mrs. John D. Roberts, 378 Jackson street.
The funeral will be held in the residence at 8 o'clock Tuesday night, the Rev. John E. Jones, a former pastor of the Welsh church, and the Rev. Owen C. Jones, West Allis, officiating. The body will be taken to Wales, Wisconsin, for internment on Wednesday.
