One of the Oldest Members of Fair Haven Lodge of Masons Dead.

Robert R. Huighes of Center Rutland died yesterday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E. R. Hughes of Park Avenue, from conditions resulting from a stroke of apoplexy which occurred Sunday night.

Mr. Hughes was born in Bethesda, North Wales, and was 68 years old, coming to this country from Wales in 1866, locating in Fair Haven and living there until about six years ago when he went to work for the Vermont Marble Company at Center Rutland.

He was one of the oldest members of the Eureka lodge of Masons at Fair Haven.

In 1867 he was married to Miss Ellen Jones of that town, who died in 1900.

Besides his daughter, Mrs. E. R. Hughes of this city, Mr. Hughes is survived by two sons, Idwal E. of Whitehall, N. Y., and Arthur C. Hughes of Rutland, and one brother oand one sister, both living in Wales.

Prayers will be offered at the house at 12 o'clock tomorrow, followed by services at the church in Fair Haven at 2 o'clock. The burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery.

At 2.30 o'clock yesterday morning, Robert R. Hughes of Center Rutland, one of the first slate men in the early days of the opening of slate quarries in Fair Haven, and one of the oldest members of Eureka lodge of Masons at Fair Haven, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E. R. Hughes, 113 Park avenue, after but a few days' illness.

Mr. Hughes was found Monday morning at his boarding place in Center Rutland in a critical condition, the result of a stroke of apoplexy, which occurred some time during Sunday night or early Monday morning, and he was brought to his daughter's home where pneumonia complicated the condition, which steadily brought the end.

Mr. Hughes was 68 years of age. He was born in Bethesda, North Wales, coming to America when he was 24 years of age. He located in Fair Haven and had lived in that village, Center Rutland and this city since. For the last five or six years he had been employed by the Vermont Marble company at Center Rutland.

Mr. Hughes was married April 20, 1867, to Miss Ellen Jones of Fair Haven, who died February 14, 1900. He Leaves besides Mrs. Hughes, two sons, Arthur C. Hughes of this city and Idwal Hughes of Whitehall, New York, one sister, Mrs. John Jones, and one brother, Richard Hughes, both of Wales, also survive him.
