PIERCE ROBERTS. POULTNEY, RUTLAND COUNTY, VERMONT.

Pierce Roberts has leased off F. Barney, his slate quarry. The first lessees of the quarry were men who had no capital, but hoped 'something would turn up.' They couldn't go on with the quarry. Mr. Barney has given them all the time wished, they having concluded it would be impossible for them to go on, they relinquished their contract, and Pierce Roberts took hold of it.

He has tools, derricks, horses, money, brains, ambition and a large amount of pluck. So here goes one more quarry.

Pierce Roberts, an aged resident of River Street, fell down the cellar stairs Saturday night and was severely bruised.

The fact that Saturday was Mr. Roberts' 76th birthday accounts in part for his liveliness, though we would advise that he go slower in celebrating future anniversaries.
