MRS. JANE ROBERTS. PORT LEYDEN, LEWIS COUNTY, NEW YORK.

Journal and Republican, Lowville, New York, April 27th, 1916.

It was with a feeling of deepest sorrow that the people of this community learned that Mrs David Roberts had passed away on Monday at 2:30. She has been in declining health for a long time, owing to her advanced years, and her death was not unexpected.

Jane Roberts was born near Bala, Wales, March 9th, 1830, and was the daughter of Evan and Hannah Roberts. She came to this country with her parents in 1842, sailing in the ship Queen of Liverpool, the voyage lasting six weeks. On the same ship was another family of the same name who had a son David. Both families settled in Deerfield.

December 5th, 1855, David Roberts and Jane Roberts were united in marriage. They settled on the farm on East road now owned by Andrew Coney, which they occupied for 44 years. Eight children were born to the couple, four of whom survive, Misses Hannah and Celia Roberts, of this village; Rev David Roberts, of Mexico, New York, and Lemuel Roberts, of New York. To them and to the aged husband, sincerest sympathy is tendered. There are also left four grandchildren and one sister, Mrs John H Williams, of New York.

Sixteen years ago Mr and Mrs Roberts retired from active life and came to this village, where they have since resided. Both Mr and Mrs Roberts were active in the affairs of the Welsh Presbyterian church at Collinsville as long as it existed, afterward joining the Welsh Presbyterian church in Utica. Mrs Roberts was a woman beloved by all who knew her, quiet and gentle in her ways, a model wife and mother. Truly "Her children rise up and call her blessed."

The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Congregational church in this village, Rev L G Colson, of Camden, officiating.
