JANE ROBERTS. SLATINGTON, LEHIGH, PENNSYLVANIA.
Mrs. Jane Roberts died in her home, 324 West Church Street, Wednesday evening, August 23rd.She was the daughter of John and Jane Roberts. (Mynydd Glas) who were well known in our community and very highly respected by all.
Mrs. Roberts was born November 17th, 1841, at Dinorwig, Caernarvonshire, North Wales.
When she was 9 years of age her parents came to this country and settled in the neighborhood of Slatington.
In the year 1858 she was married to Samuel Roberts, who also was a native of Dinorwig, Carnarvonshire. He died in 1871.
Two years later, she was married the second time to Hugh Lloyd, who died in California in 1881. Mrs. Lloyd lived in Slatington and the vicinity until she removed to New York City in 1885 where she lived for about 15 years, returning to Slatington in 1900. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. William Roberts, Mrs. John G. Hughes, James Lloyd, all of New York City Miss Elizabeth Lloyd of town. Three of her sons who had grown to manhood, had preceded her in death, namely, Owen Roberts, Henry Lloyd, and Edward Lloyd. She is also survived by two brothers, John J. Roberts and David J. Roberts.
The funeral services were held at the Welsh Presbyterian Church, Sunday afternoon, the pastor Rev. John Williams officiating. The attendence at the funeral service was unusually huge and testified to the high respect in which she was held by a large circle of friends. Scores from out of town, from New York, Philadelphia, Banger, Danielsville, Allentown attended the funeral. She was one of the most faithful members of the Welsh Presbyterian Church, and was specially characterized by liberlity and hospitality.
The pallbearers were: Robert W Pritchard, Michael J. Roberts, John G. Griffiths, James Owens, Robert J. Roberts, Edward O. Williams, William E. Roberts, and Hugh J. Roberts.
