MR. ROBERT H. EVANS. LOUISA COUNTY, IOWA.

Robert Evans, one of the well known and very highly esteemed residents of the Welsh Neighbourhood for the past fifty years, died early Tuesday morning, October 1st, 1918.

The funeral service was held this Thursday afternoon at one o'clock at the home and at one thirty at the Salem Welsh church, where the following eloquent tribute to his memory was read by his pastor, Rev. H. W. Owen.

Early Tuesday morning the quiet life of this community was deeply disturbed, when the news was carried that our friend, uncle and father Robert Evans had passed away.

Robert Evans was born in February 1841 on a farm near Towyn, Merionethshire, North Wales. He was the son of Robert and Jane Evans, who were born in the same place. They were parents of eight children, four sons and four daughters, three of which are still living, Lewis and Catherine in Wales and Mrs Mary Griffiths of Lime Springs, Iowa, who is here at her brother's funeral today.

Robert Evans's boyhood and early manhood were spent on the farm. Here he received the basis of that splendid strong physical constitution, which helped him so much in the strenuous life of after years.

While in the prime of his manhood, at the age of 26, he was possessed by the spirit of adventure, and resolved to make America his future home, Si in the year 1866, he crossed the Atlantic, and after reaching harbor, came directly to this county in our state. For a short time he was employed as a farm hand, after which he bought 80 acres, which was then partly improved. Since that time he has added to the original purchase until before his death his farm consisted of 334 acres.

In 1868 Mr Evans was united in marriage with Sarah Davies, a native of Wales, who had been a godly mother to six children; three of whom are living today, Eunice, Claudia and Mary. The mother died in July 13th 1884.

Mr. Evans was again married becoming the husband of Mary Evans in 1886, who was also born in Wales. She has been a helpful helpmate to him, a nd a godly mother to six children, five of whom are living Leah, Milton, Evan, Alice and Elsie.

Our departed, was reared in a christian home, his father being a deacon in the Welsh C. M. church in Wales. From childhood he was a member of the Christian faith and since over 25 years has been a deacon in this church, always faithful and energetic in his efforts to advance the principles of the Kingdom of God on earth.

For many years he had been a successful Sunday svhool teacher, with the adult classes in our Sunday School, and they all speak highly of him, as a christian and a friend.

I had the opportunity to know him in the church as well as in his home. He would always be the first one to catch my eye from the pulpit. I sat by his side in prayer meeting, listened to him praying and felt many a time that heaven was near and showers of divine blessings was pouring on us. I listened to him in Class Meetings, he would always say his testimony in a very personal manner, which to me was an indication of his sincerity and up to the very last the cause of Jesus Christ was very dear to him.

When during his sickness he was confined for about ten months to his home, and most of the time to his death chamber. I visited him often and found him ready for the will of his Master. Very often inquiring about God's Cause in Salem Here, when suffering greatly from his sickness. With patience he endured his long suffering and his spirit took his fight to God who gave it, in peace and with a blessed assurance that he was safely in the arms of Jesus. At the age of 77 and 7 months.

To you who have come here, to give the last tribute to his memory, I wish to call your attention to words to be seen in Hebrews 13:7.

Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God; whose faith follows, considering the end of their conversation.

MR. ROBERT H. EVANS. LOUISA COUNTY, IOWA.

ROBERT H. EVANS, a general farmer and stock-raiser, residing on section 17, Elm Grove Township, was born in February, 1840, in Merionethshire, Wales, and is a son of Robert and Jane (Evans) Evans, who were also born in the same place. They were parents of eight children, four sons and four daughters, all yet living - though only two ever came to America. Robert, and Mary, now Mrs. Griffith, of Elm Grove Township. Evan, Eliza, Jane, Catherine and Lewis yet live in their native land, while Thomas is a gold miner of Australia.

Our subject received his education in Wales, and there aided his father in the labors of the farm until 1866, when, resolving to make America his future home, he crossed the Atlantic, and after reaching harbor came directly to Louisa County, Iowa. For a short time he was employed a farm hand, after which he bought eighty acres of land, which was then but partly iniproved, but is now one of the best farms in the county, owing to the cultivation and labor which Mr. Evans has bestowed upon it. He has added to the original purchase until he now owns 334 acres in one body, and his farm is stocked with a good grade of horses, cattle and pigs.

In 1868 Mr. Evans was united in marriage with Sarah Daws, a native of Wales, and to them were born six children : Robert E., born Sept. I6. 18G8, died in June, 1870; Anna Jane, born Oct. 22, 1870; Eunice, Jan. 9, 1873; Claudia, Sept. 2, 1875; Thomas John, Oct. 14, 1878; Mary, Sept. 27. 1882.

The mother died July 13, 1884, and Mr. Evans was again married in June, 1886, becoming the husband of Mary Evans, who was also born in Wales, and is a daughter of Evan and Mary Evans. By their union one child has been born, Leah. The parents are both members of the Welsh Presbyterian Church. Mr. Evans has held various township offices of trust, is now one of the School Directors, and is also serving as Road Supervisor.

In his political views he is an ardent supporter of the Republican party, unswerving in his allegiance to its principles. He came to this country with a determination to be an American citizen, and Louisa County has not one who is more true and loyal. This land is now his home, its interests are his, and for its welfare he earnestly labors.

MR. ROBERT H. EVANS. LONG CREEK, COLUMBUS JUNCTION, IOWA.

Diameu mai newydd pruddaidd i gyfeillion a chydnabyddion Mr. Robert Evans fydd clywed am ei farwolaeth. Bu y cyfaill hoff yn dyoddef yn ddwys am yn agos i ddeng mis, heb air grwgnachllyd oddi ar ei enau, yn erbyn ewyllys ei Feistr.

Ganwyd ef ar ffermdy yn agos i Towyn, Meirionydd, Gogledd Cymru, Chwefror, 1841. Mab ydoedd i Robert a Jane Evans. Yr ydoedd yn un o wyth o blant; pedwar mab a phedair merch. Nid oes ond tri o'r plant yn awr yn fyw: Lewis a Catherine yn Nghymru a Mrs. Mary Griffiths yn Lime Springs, Iowa. Treuliodd ein gwrthrych ddyddiau ei ieuenctyd ar y fferm gyda'i rieni. Dyma y lle y derbyniodd fagwraeth gychwynol y corff cryf ac fu mor werthfawr iddo yn ei lafur caled yn y blynyddoedd dylynol.

Pan yn 26 oed, meddianwyd ef ag ysbryd anturiaethus, a phenderfynodd wneyd ei gartref dyfodol yn America. Yn y flwyddyn 1866, croesodd y Werydd, a daeth yn uniongyrchol i sefydlu yn y cyffiniau yma.

Ymbriododd a Miss Sarah Davis, yn y flwyddyn 1868, a ganwyd o'r undeb chwech o blant, o ba rai y mae tri yn fyw. Bu farw Mrs. Davis Gorphenaf 13eg, 1884. Ail briododd Mr. Evans yn y flwyddyn 1886, a daeth yn briod i Miss May Evans o Gymru. Ganwyd iddynt chwech o blant o'r undeb hwn, o ba rai y mae pump yn fyw.

Magwyd ef ar aelwyd grefyddol. Yr oedd ei dad yn flaenor gyda y M. C. yn Nghymru. Cafodd yntau y fraint o lenwi yr un swydd am dros 25 o flynyddoedd yn eglwys Salem. Llanwodd hi yn ol ei allu yn anrhydeddus. Bu yn ffyddlawn i egwyddorion y deyrnas yn eu holl agweddau. Blaenor dwy dalent ydoedd. Mae ambell i seren yn oleuach na'u gilydd er mai o'r un ffynonell y maent yn derbyn eu goleuni. Y mae yr Arglwydd yn donio yn ol ei ewyllys ei hen; ond y peth mawr yw enill atynt y nifer ydym wedi eu cael. Credaf fod y brawd hwn wedi gwneyd hyny. Yr oedd wedi ei ddonio a rhagoriaethau a chymwysderau i fod yn arweiniwr crefyddol yn yr ardal hon. Yr oedd yn wr a hoffid yn fawr gan y saint a'i hadwaenai. Yr oedd prif rhinweddau crefydd bersonol yn eu symlrwydd yn dysgleirio yn ei ymarweddiad.

Bu farw mewn amser dymunol i farw. Heddyw gwelir dail y coed yn troi eu lliw, ac yn raddol ymollwng oddi ar y brigau, wedi gorphen eu tymor o wasanaeth, ac yn syrthio yn dawel ac esmwyth i fynwes y ddaear. Felly y bu farw Robert Evans, mewn tangnefedd yr ymollyngodd oddiwrth ei wasanaeth i fynwes ei Waredwr ar y cyntaf o Hydref, 1918. Erys ei goffadwriaeth yn wyrddlas iawn, ac y mae hiraeth yn llanw mynwesau ar ei ol. Da yw meddwl er hyny, ar ol ei golli, fod ei fywyd yn cael ei ailfyw gan ei blant sydd mor ffyddlon gyda'r achos yma. Nawdd y nef a fyddo drostynt oll.

Y Drych Tachwedd 7fed, 1918.
