Owen Hughes of Middle Granville Meets Death in Explosion.
HEAD NEARLY SEVERED.Owen Hughes, 22, of Middle Granville was instantly Killed at 11 o'clock yesterday morning by a blast in aquarry which he and his father, William Hughes, operated in the Village.
Hughes and his father had strung wires for the blast and in some manner his ffot became caught in the wire setting off the charge. His head was nearly severed by falling slate. Coroner R. C. Davies, of Granville, was summoned and pronounced the man dead.
The quarry is located in the northern section of Middle Granville near the Jay Gould houses.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his widow; a son, Charles Evans Hughes; two sisters, Mrs. William R. Hughes and Miss Mary Hughes and two brothers, William J. Hughes and Charles Hughes, all of Middle Granville.
The body was removed to the McHenry and Roberts undertaking parlour.
