RICHARD J. HUGHES. GRANVILLE, WASHINGTON COUNTY, NEW YORK.

GRANVILLE, NEW YORK - October 16th. Funeral services were held this afternoon at his late home for Richard J. Hughes, 74, one of Granville's oldest residents, who died suddenly Tuesday afternoon from a cerebral hemorrhage.

He was born in Bethesda, North Wales, coming, when a young boy, to the United States and locating in Fair Haven, Vermont, later moving to Granville.

He was married in April 1882 and he and Mrs Hughes, who survives him were planning to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary next April.

He was employed for many years by the Prudential Insurance company in Granville, being forced to retire 13 years ago owing to ill health.

He was a charter member of Mettowee lodge of Odd Fellows in Granville and had served as a noble grand of the order. He was a member of the Granville Methodist Episcopal church.

Funeral services were in charge of the Odd Fellows members of the order acting as bearers. The officiating minister was Rev. Oscar C. Plumb of the Granville Methodist Episcopal church.

Surviving Hughes are his widow, one daughter, Mrs. George W. Roberts of Granville, and a grandaughter, Miss Orpha Roberts of Albany, New York.

Burial was in the Mettowee Valley cemetery.
