REV. EDWARD ROBERTS. VENEDOCIA, VAN WERT COUNTY, OHIO.
The death of Rev. Edward Roberts occurred at his home in Madison, Wisconsin, Monday of last week after a short illness of pneumonia. Rev. Mr. Roberts came to the Mettowee Valley as a student from Princeton and served the Granville, Middle Granville and West Pawlet churches for a period of twelve years, where he made many friends. Later he accepted a call to a large church in Ohio and from there to Madison, Wisconsin, where he had a fine home.He was united in marriage to Mary Davies, second daughter of the late Griffith R. and Jane Davies and occupied the parsonage of the Welsh church in Middle Granville, where to them were born five children, Rev. John Rhys Roberts of Johnstown, Pennsylvania; Edward Howell of Princeton, to which school he won a scholarship; Griffith Ellis, a lawyer in Madison, Wisconsin, Blodwen and Jane Olwen, who reside at home, all of whom with the widow, Mrs. Roberts, survive.
Rev. Mr. Roberts was a man of strong character, a scholar and true christian and lived as he preached. He will be greatly missed from the many circles in which he was interested. He served on the Foreign Mission board among other important offices which he held pertaining to his church work. It is a great loss to the Welsh clergy and as a husband and father, he was ideal. Much sympathy is extended the family in their bereavement.
The internment was in Venedocia, Ohio.
