Richard Owen Griffith, a well known resident of this town, died suddenly from a heart attack about 4:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, at his North Main street home.

Born in North Wales, Mr. Griffith came to Fair Haven when a young man and had lived here for 46 years. During that time he was employed at the Eureka Slate Quarries where he obtained his first job. The position he held for 40 years, remaining with that company until the quarry closed a few years ago.

The deceased was a husband of the late Mary Elizabeth Owen, who died 34 years ago. Since that time he has made his home with Miss Margaret Owen, his sister-in-law.

Mr. Griffith was a member of the Welsh Ivorites of Poultney; the Fair Haven Masonic Association; the Independent Order of Foresters and Eureka Lodge of Odd Fellows. He was a prominent member and worker for the Republican party, and was always interested in the welfare of the community. For six years Mr. Griffith served on the board of Selectmen and was a Justice of the Peace for twenty-eight years.

Among the survivors are two sisters; Mrs. Hugh R. Griffith of Granville, New York and Mrs. R. W. Thomas of New York Cityl also a brother, Humphrey Griffith of Granville.

The death of Richard Owen Griffith, 65, occurred at his home in Fair Haven, January 15th, after a brief illness. Mr. Griffith, who was well known in Granville, has been a resident of Fair Haven for forty-six years. He was a member of the Welsh Ivorites of Poultney, the Masonic lodge, Independent Order of Foresters and the Eureka lodge of Odd Fellows of Fair Haven. He served as Justice of the Peace for twenty-eight years and selectman for six years.

He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Hugh R. Griffith of Granville and Mrs. R. W. Thomas of New York; also sister-in-law Mrs. Margaret Griffith of the latter city, one brother, Humphrey Griffith of Granville and a sister-in-law, Miss Margaret Owen of Fair Haven, with whom he made his home.

The funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home, at which Rev. John D. Owen, pastor of the Welsh Congregational church officiated. At 2:30, a service was held at St. Luke's Episcopal church, with Rev. Emmett C. paige officiating. The Welsh Male Quartet of Granville sang, which included Gordon Owens, Richard T. Roberts, Ernest Morris and William T. Roberts.

The burial was in Cedar Grove cemetery. The bearers were Arthur Baker, Carl Beach, Emerys Jones, Hugh Roberts, William M. Williams and Evan T. Griffith. The honourary bearers were Rev. John D. Owens, R. Temple Jones and Robert G. Williams. There was a profusion of beautiful flowers.

Two prayer services were held for Richard Owen Griffith, prominent Fair Haven citizen, who died from a heart attack last Wednesday afternoon at his home on North Main street.

A Welsh prayer service was held at his late home Saturday afternoon with the Rev. John D. Owen, pastor of the Welsh Congregational church, officiating. During the service a Welsh hymn, 'Aberystwyth,' was sung by a male quartet from Granville, New York, consisting of Richard T. Roberts, Gordon Owens, William T. Roberts and Ernest Morris.

At 2:30 the body was brought to St. Luke's Episcopal church where Rev. Emmett C. Paige, pastor, conducted the funeral service. Rev. Paige also read the committal prayers at the internment which was in Cedar Grove cemetery.

The pall bearers were Carl Beach, Emerys Jones, Arthur Baker, William H. Williams, Hugh Roberts and Evan T. Griffith. The honorary bearers were Rev. John D. Owen, R. Temple Jones and Robert G. Williams.
