Thomas Hughes, 74, Dies At His Home.

Bethel Presbyterian Church Deacon Was Active in Religious Affairs.

Thomas Hughes, 74, died at his home, 121 Turin St., last night, following a heart ailment from which he had suffered several years.

He was a prominent member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, being one of its deacons since 1912. For a period of 15 years he led the singing in the church.

Mr. Hughes was born in Tydweiliog, Wales, December 29th, 1864, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Hughes.

In Rome on December 7th, 1893, he married Jane M. Jones, who survives. He also leaves two daughters, Mrs. John W. Davies and Mrs. Robert D. Roberts of Rome, a sister, Miss Catherine Hughes, and a brother, John Hughes, both of Tydewiliog and eight grandchildren.

During the postmanstership of Charles A. Fowler, Mr. Hughes was employed at the Rome post office as caretaker. He was a member of Dyfed Lodge 57, American True Ivorites, and a charter member of Hatheway lodge 869, F. and A. M.

His last employment was as stock clerk at the Rome Manufacturing Company plant. He retired in 1929 due to ill health.
