MR. JOHN R. OWENS, LAKE CRYSTAL, BLUE EARTH COUNTY, MINNESOTA.
Born near the city of Carnarvon in Carnarvonshire, Wales, July 31, 1843.When he was a year old his parents emigrated to America, settling for one year near Remsen, N. Y., then at Columbus, Wisconsin, where Mr. Owens resided until the spring of 1866, when he left the parental home and came to Mankato, Minnesota. He worked there for about a year, then settled on a farm in Butternut Valley, where he is now engaged in successful farming.
January, 1868, he married Miss Gwen Evans, and they have been blessed with eight children, six sons and two daughters.
Mr. Evans has held a number of town and school district offices.
He was brought up by God-fearing parents, his father, the late Owen Owens, being a deacon in the church, and the son was chosen in 1893 to serve in the same office in Bethel church.
Mr. Owens is one of the many who have fought life’s battles under disadvantages, but by honest industry and pluck have won the victory.
