EVAN WILLIAM JONES. CARROLL, WAYNE COUNTY, NEBRASKA.

Evan W. Jones, resident of Wayne county for 30 years, died Monday morning at the Leonard Link home near Carroll, where he lived. He was lifeless at 7 a.m. when the Links went to call him, and a doctor who was summoned thought he must have died about 5 a.m. from a stroke.

Funeral rites for Mr. Jones were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 from the Bethany Presbyterian church west of Carroll with Rev. R. H. Williams in charge. Irwin Jones had charge of the special music. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Jones was born in Dinas Mawddwy, Merioneth, North Wales, , April 10th, 1851, and was thus aged 87 years, 5 months and 10 days. He came to this country 68 years ago at the age of 19 years and first located in Iowa. There he married Miss Mary Ellen Evans on February 18th, 1886. The couple moved to Platte County, Nebraska, where their children were born.. They came to a farm near Carroll in March, 1898, and the deceased had resided there since.

Mr. Jones leaves two daughters, Winnie, Mrs. Harry G. Evans, of Omaha, and Olwen, Mrs. Joe Hinkle of Omaha, and one son, Gwilym E. Jones of Lend, South Dakota. There are eleven grandchildren. Mrs. Jones died in 1915. A daughter Cottie, Mrs. Celyn Morris, died in 1933, and a son, Owen was killed in an accident with a team and wagon in 1917. Two sons and a daughter died in infancy. Mr. Jones leaves one brother, Dave Jones, Garden Grove, Iowa.

Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Jones and son, Lynn Evan, came from Lead Tuesday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Wineral of Leavensworth, Kansas, a grandaughter of the deceased, came Tuesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Evans and family and Mr. and Mrs. Hinkle and family of Omaha, Dave Jones and Everett of Garden Grove came Wednesday for the funeral.

Pall bearers were : Dave Theophilus, George Owens, W. H. Keen, Robert Jones, David rees and C. H. Martin.

Mr. Jones was a faithful member of the Congregational church and was highly esteemed by his many friends and relatives.

The above obituary was sent to this paper by the deceased's brother, David W. Jones at Garden Grove. Evan Jones died September 19th. He adds more to the sketch saying taht "when Mr. Jones first came to this country he settled at York Center, what was then known as Welsh Prairie in the spring of 1871. He worked for his aunt Katherine Rees at first and stayed there and in Williamsburg for eight years before returning to Wales on account of his health. He came back to America two years later, and with him came teo brothers, Robert and John and they worked in the old neighbourhood.

His wife, the former Mary Evans, was a sister to Dan O. James, Mrs. Ed. Bulkeley and four sisters in Williamsburg, Mrs Sarah Williams, Min; Morris Williams and late brother Simon of South Dakota. One brother Evan was the oldest in the family of eight children, all deceased but me. Two sisters besides the boys which are named Ruth and Elizabeth the former died in wales and the latter in Ilion, New York.
