ELIZABETH LEWIS. GRANVILL, WASHINGTON COUNTY, NEW YORK.
The death of Mrs. Elizabeth Lewis, age 66, occurred at 8 o'clock Friday morning, June 24, after a long illness. She had been living with her daughter, Mrs. Owen W. Parry, at 11 Broadview Terrace in this village for some time, and had been sick for 11 months with pernicious anaemia.Mrs. Lewis was born December 25th, 1871, at Llanrug, North Wales, the daughter of Thomas and Grace Pritchard. She attended the schools of her native town and on March 20th, 1893, was united in marriage with Robert L. Lewis at Granville, who died som years ago. They first resided in West Pawlet, later moving to Granville. Three children were born to them : Mrs. Owen W. Parry of Granville and Mrs. Grace L. Needham of Palisades Park, New Jersey, and one daughter who has passed away.
Mrs. Lewis was active in her church work, for many and served as president of the Ladies Aid Society of the Welsh Congregational Church of this village. She was a member of the Women's Benefit Association, Rebecca Lodge of Whitehall and Colfax Past Grants Association. When health permitted she was much interested in these societies and was a valued member.
Deeply interested in her family, she will be missed by them and by many friends. Her grandchildren were the pride of her life and they loved her for her thoughtful kindness. A good neighbor and an interesting conversationalist her little visits about the neighbourhood were always pleasant. For some years she was employed on Grand Isle, managing the household of a retired railroad officer. There she welcomed her friends from Granville and several drove that way in order to enjoy a call. She returned to Granville after his death.
The survivors beside the two daughters mentioned are five grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. John W. Jones and Mrs. Griffith R. Williams of Granville; one brother, Richard T. Pritchard of Albany.
Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Welsh Congregational Church, the revs. John W. Owens of Fair Haven and William Barlow of Granville, officiating. Internment was in Mettowee cemetery at Granville. The bearers were John R. Williams, Evan J. Williams, Thomas Roberts, Thomas Rowlands, David Pritchard and Harry K. Williams. The grave at the cemetery and the room where the casket lay at her daughter's home were beautiful with blooms sent by relatives and friends.
Relatives from away at the services included Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Pritchard and Mrs. Ella Lewis of Albany, Mr. and Mrs. Emrys Lewis of Fort Edward and David Lewis of Saratoga.
