Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon for Mrs. Richard Ellis, who died Tuesday, October 10th, at her late home on College Street, Poultney. Rev. Lemuel Jones, pastor of the Welsh Presbyterian Church, officiating.The bearers were William L. Farnham, John Ripley, John Bessey, Robert O. Jones, Patrick Mack and John T. Evans. The burial was in Hillside Cemetery.
Mrs. Ellis was one of the oldest residents of the town and village of Poultney. She was born in Wales and came to this country in her youth and was married to Richard Ellis in 1875 at Fair Haven. She had resided in the town of Poultney since that time, living in her late home in Poultney village for 51 years.
The survivors are one daughter, Miss Amma M. Ellis who resided at home and who has been untiring in her devotion to her mother; one son, J. Arthur Ellis of Richford and a brother, William Williams of Wales and two grandsons, Idris J. Ellis of South Poultney and Ralph Ellis of Richford and one great grandaughter, Miss Jean Marie Ellis of South Poultney, student at Johnson Normal.
Among those from out of town attending the funeral services were Jean Marie Ellis of Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Grace and Mr. Hugh W. Jones, Rutland, Mrs. Margaret Hughes and daughter, Mrs. Will Roberts, Granville; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lloyd and Mrs. Jennie Lloyd Williams of Fair Haven.
