MR. JOHN HUGH EDWARDS, FLORENCE, FREEMONT COUNTY, COLORADO.
John Hugh Edwards was the son of Hugh (1845-1919) and Ann (1848-1921) Edwards. Hugh and Ann Edwards were parents of 14 children : John (1870) and Frances (1872) were both born in Bethesda Caernarvonshire.A younger brother of Hugh Edwards, Richard (1847-1914), and his wife Jane (1851-1934), emigrated from Wales in 1883 or 1884, bringing with them Hugh and Ann's eldest son, John, who was then about 14. They settled on a farm one mile south of Barclay, Kansas.
Ann Edwards was very homesick for John. He wrote repeatedly begging them to come to America because of the greater opportunities in this country. John was very fond of his aunt and uncle and continued to live with them, even after his family came to America.
In early July 1885, Hugh, Ann, and seven children departed Anglesey by train to Liverpool. The family sailed abroad the Britannic and arrived in New York on July 27, 1885.
