LAURA JANE ROBERTS. RUTLAND, RUTLAND COUNTY, VERMONT.

The death of Mrs. Laura Jane Roberts Owens, wife of William A. Owens, of Granville, occurred Friday morning, May 3rd, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Owen Tobin in West Pawlet. She had been in poor health for several years but her death was not expected and was a shock to her family and many friends.

Mrs. Owen was born December 28th, 1881, in Pennal, Merioneth, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William L. Roberts of Slocum Avenue, Granville. She came to Granville with her parents when four months old and had always lived in the town of Granville.

She was educated in the schools of the town and in 1909 was united in marriage with William R. Owens at the home of parents who then lived on the Granville-Middle Granville Road. She was a member of the Presbyterian church of Granville.

Two daughters were born to them; Mrs. Michael McMorrow (Louise) who lived on Pine Hill in Granville and Mrs. Owen Tobin (Alice) of West Pawlet.

The survivors are her husband and two daughters mentioned; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William L. Roberts; one sister, Mrs. William H. Gladstone (Mary) of Chicago; two brothers, Edward of Newton, Massachusetts; and Hugh L. Roberts of new York City and three nephews, sons of her brother Edward. A brother, Goronwy, died July 6th, 1934.

The funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at her home in West Pawlet, the Rev. Ellis Lloyd, pastor of the Granville Presbyterian church officiating.

Burial was in Mettowee cemetery.

The bearers were Arch Woodard, Harry Hughes, Will E. Roberts, George Roberts, Evan J. Williams and George McDonough.

The flowers were beautiful and of many varieties, paying silent tribute fron friends and relatives of love and esteem for Mrs. Owens.

Mrs. Owens was a most estimable woman beloved by her family and a wide circle of friends. Loving her home, husband, parents and children, she will be sorely missed in the family circle. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to her parents and immediate family. Kindness and gentleness were admirable traits of her fine character and her neighbourly thoughtfulness will be missed in the town where she spent practically her entire life.

Among those present at the services from out of town included her brother Ederis Roberts and family, brother Hugh L. Roberts; Lucille Roberts of New York, Harry Hughes and family of Schenectady and Richard Roberts of Albany.

Her children rise up and call her blessed.
