WILLIAM MACHNO GRIFFITHS. RUTLAND, RUTLAND COUNTY, VERMONT.

William M. Griffiths passed away at the Rutland hospital, Thursday night, February 6th, after a week's illness following a major operation. The body was taken to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Idris Ellis, South Poultney, where he had made his home the past four years.

Mr. Griffiths was born in Penmachno, North Wales, 67 years ago, son of Edward and Catherine Vauhgn Griffiths, and came to this country 39 years ago. He came to the home od Mr. and Mrs. Lewis L. Jones, where he spent most of his life except a few years spent in Arizona. Upon the death of Mr. and Mrs. Jones he went to the home of their daughter, Mrs. Idris Ellis and family.

He was aman of sterling qualities and his life was devoted to doing for others. He was lover of children, and his greatest pleasure was to do for them at Christmas time.

The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Ellis home at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. Ellis Lloyd of the Granville Presbyterian Church officiating, who spoke of Mr. Griffiths' life of doing for his friends. The singing of two of his favorite Welsh hymns was impressive.

The survivors are a sister, Mrs. George Humphrey of Ontario, Canada, and a brother, David Griffiths of Deganwy, North Wales; also several nieces and nephews living in England and Wales.

There was a profusion of beautiful flowers, set pieces having been received from International Slate company and employees, South Poultney community Slateworkers' union, friends and neighbors.

The bearers were Thomas L. Thomas, John R. Jones, Owen J. Jones, William J. Morris, John W. Roberts and Ednyfed Thomas.

Burial followed in the Griffiths plot in the Poultney cemetery, with Rev. Lloyd having charge.

Out of town friends at the service included Mr. and Mrs. Lewis L. Jones, Miss Jean M. Ellis, Johnson; Miss Mary Morris, Albany; Mrs. Richard H. Jones, Carmen DeBonis, Troy; Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Jones, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Grace, Mrs. Winifred Parry, Rutland; Mr. and Mrs. George Treehouse, Mrs. Anna T. Lloyd, Mrs. Russell Hughes, Mr.and Mrs. Floyd Hughes, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Thomas, Miss Olive Morris, John W. Griffiths, Miss Mary Macura and William A. Morris, Granville and many from other surrounding towns.
