FAIR HAVEN, March 5th. - Richard Temple Jones, 71, former state senator and for many years a prominent figure in the industrial, political and civic life of this community, died early this (wednesday) morning at his home on North Main street after a period of failing health.

He was born in Wales, November 9th, 1869, and came to Fair Haven in 1889, and was associated with the slate industry for most of his life, being superintendent of the Eureka quarry for many years.

The death of Richard Temple Jones, 71, former State Senator, occurred Wednesday morning of last week at his home on North Main Street in Fair Haven, following a period of failing health.

Mr. Jones was born in Wales, November 9th, 1869. He was associated with the slate business most of his life, being superintendent of the Eureka quarry for many years. He was a prominent figure in the industrial, political and civic life of the community.

He served his town in many capacities, being an auditor, cemetery commisioner, library trustee. He was town representative in the Legislatures of 1933 and 1935 and in 1937, was Rutland county Senator. He was prominent in musical circles and his tenor voice was widely known in this section in glee clubs and choruses.

Mr. Jones was a member of Eureka lodge of Masons and Arthur lodge of Ivorites of Poultney, Killington commandery, Knights Templar of Rutland and Cairo Temple.

The survivors are a daughter, Miss Edith Temple Jones, a member of the faculty of St. Faith's School, Saratoga Springs; also several nieces and nephews in this country and in Wales.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at his late home, Rev. John D. Owen, pastor of the Welsh Congregational church officiating. The burial was in Cedar Grove cemetery.
