Closing a successful career of a quarter of a century with the Prudential Insurance Company, Rees G. Williams of Granville, was placed on the retired list of the company, at a general meeting of the representatives of the company from this district at the Berwyck Hotel in Rutland, held Saturday, May 1st. Mr. Williams was appropriately presented with adiamond badge before a large gathering.

Rees G. Williams is well known in Granville and vicinity in which he has made his home for the past fifty four years, having come to Granville from Carnarvonshire, near Beddgelert, North Wales, May 24th, 1882. He was born October 19th, 1866. When sixteen years of age he came to this country and lived with Mr. and Mrs. Owen M. Price in Middle Granville. With the exception of three years which Mr. Williams spent in Virginia, Granville has always been home.

He was long enough in Virginia to get aquainted with and marry Mary Owens, daughter of H. Owens of Avondale, Virginia, returning to Granville and settling in their home at 34 Columbus Street, where Mrs. Williams died February 14th, this year. After his return from Virginia, Mr. Williams was employed in the slate quarries, later becoming a shipping clerk for General William H. Hughes of Granville.

REES G. WILLIAMS. GRANVILLE, WASHINGTON COUNTY, NEW YORK.

The death of Rees G. Williams, 75, of Granville, occurred Monday night, March 23rd, at his home following a lingering illness.

Mr. Williams was born October 10th, 1886, at Beddgelert, North Wales. He married Mary Owens, December 14th, 1892, at Arvonia, Virginia, where they resided, later coming to Granville. Mrs. Williams' death occurred a few years ago.

He was a member of the Baptist Church of Granville, past president of the Baptist's Laymen's club and a member of the Granville lodge F. and A.M. He was an insurance agent for the Prudential Insurance company in Granville for many years, from which position he retired several years ago.

Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Williams, two daughters and two sons. Mrs. Marietta Davies, Cleveland, Ohio; Mrs. Hazel Kinney, Oxford, New York; Harry O. Williams, New Britain, Connecticut, and Town Clerk R. Newton Williams of Granville who survive him with three grandchildren.

The funeral services will be held at the home Thursday at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. Ira Stanton, pastor of the Baptist church and Rev. Henry Hughes, pastor of the Congregational church, officiating.

The bearers are the following : William G. Williams, Dr. John H. Ring, Thomas G. Roberts, William Grastorf, Easton Owen and Dr. W. P. Hulett.

Mr. Williams made many friends in his contact with the public. He possessed a kindly disposition, always willing to lend a helping hand whenever it was needed. He was a devoted husband and father. His passing will be mourned by a large circle of friends.
