MR. JOHN J. EVANS. UTICA, ONEIDA COUNTY, NEW YORK.

John J. Evans, 83, 1210 Neilson, former caretaker at the Roscoe Conkling Park Zoo, died at his home January 22nd, 1944, after an illness of nearly a year.

Born September 1st, 1860, in Llanllyfni, Carnarvonshire, North Wales. He came to this country when he was 20 years old and settled with relatives in Alder Creek. There he was a farmer for nearly two decades. He came to Utica 43 years ago.

In 1882 he married Margaret Hughes, Remsen, who died in 1901. Three years later he married Laura Jones who died six years ago. He was a member of Moriah Church.

He is survived by four daughters; Mrs. Ray Abbott, Utica; Mrs. Robert Lindsley, Zanesville, Ohio; Mrs. Pearl Turner, Portland, Oregon, and Mrs. Dorland Emieghmie, Poughkeepsie; a stepson, Arthur Jones, Ilion; two sisters Mrs. Richard R. Williams, Utica, and Mrs. Margaret Rowlands, Remsen; two brothers, Evan J. Evans and Hugh J. Evans, both of Remsen; and 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

funeral will be conducted at his home Tuesday at 2. Burial will be in Prospect.
