MICHAEL J. ROBERTS. SLATINGTON, LEHIGH COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA.
Michael J. Roberts, a resident of Slatington for the last 68 years, died yesterday at 12.15 p.m. in his home, 3.2 Williams Street, Slatington. He was 87.Born in Cwm y Glo, Caernarvonshire, North Wales, he was a son of the late John and Kathryn (Owens) Roberts.
Mr. Roberts came to this country when he was 19. He and his brother, Hugh entered the slate business under the firm name of Roberts Brothers. They operated quarries at Trout Creek, Eureka and Berlinsville. Michael Roberts had been in retirement since 1942.
He was a prominent member of the Salem Welsh Presbyterian church, Slatington, having been its treasurer for the last 42 years. For 55 years he was a deacon of the same church.
Survivors include four children, Kathryn M., Robert Marvin and Gwynedd M. Roberts, all at home, and Margaret, wife of Charles Schoffstall, Bethlehem; two brothers, Hugh J. of Slatington and Richard J. of South Poultney, Vermont.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Mary Jane Williams.
