ANNE ELLEN WILLIAMS. GRANVILLE WASHINGTON COUNTY, NEW YORK.

Mrs. Anne Ellen Williams, 79, wife of Robert O. Williams of 23 Williams Street, died in Emma Laing Stevens hospital Monday morning.

Mrs. Williams was the daughter of Mrs. Grace Williams and John J. Williams who came to Granville from Festiniog, North Wales, in 1874. In Wales they had been owners of a hotel, here they developed the red quarry on the Middle Granville road and manufactured red slate. The Advance Industrial Supply Co. is on that site at the present time.

After selling the red quarry they brought the Bulkley farm of over 200 acres including the mountain across the Indian River known as Ffestiniog mountain. Some development of the red rock was made on the mountain but it was not suitable for slate.

The flat land of the farm was cut up into building lots. A map made of these lots can be found today in the county clerk's office at Hudson Falls. Many streets were developed from this Bulkley Farm including all of Williams Street which was named after them, all of Irving Avenue, parts of Columbus, Lincoln, Madison and other streets.

Even after her husband died, Grace Williams continued as a real estate dealer, having many houses built, selling some and renting others, many of the lots were sold for building purposes. George W. Braymer and Sigmund Weinberg bought many od the lots and started their building business. Later Mr. Braymer sold out to Mr. Weinberg who continued in the building business until his death.

Grace Williams and her family lived in the old Buckley homestead on Quaker Street, the present site of the home of Miss Lulu Hull. The children of Grace and John Williams were John, the eldest, who died in young manhood; Robert who died in December 1940; Catherine who died in February 1942, and Anne Ellen who passed away Monday morning.

These three children lived veryclosely to one another all their lives, all living on Williams Street where their mother built a house for each one as they married.

Anne Ellen Williams married Robert O. Williams who came from Pantglas, North Wales, who survives her as well as a daughter, Mrs. Grace Huntress. Also surviving are a niece, Mrs. Bertha Tobin of Schenectady, a cousin, Mrs. William D. Williams and her daughters, Nell, Mary, Winnie and Betty, who extended much kindness to her in her last years. She devoted her life to her family, a loving wife and mother, and was by the side of her sister and brother to the very end of their lives. She had been a member of the Welsh Congregational church for over 70 years and was an example of a good neighbor all her life.

Funeral services are being conducted today, Thursday, at 2:00 o'clock at the Gilman home, 56 Quaker Street, where they have been living since Mrs. Williams returned from the hospital after breaking her hip in July, 1948.

Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Maldwyn Davies with music by William R. Thomas. Burial will be in Mettowee cemetery.
