HUGH DAVID HUGHES. POULTNEY, RUTLAND COUNTY, VERMONT.
POULTNEY - Hugh D. Hughes, 81, husband of the late Mary W. Williams, died Tuesday morning in Rutland Hospital after a long illness.Born in Bethesda, Wales, April 5th, 1895, son of David and Elizabeth (Williams) Hughes, he was an elder and trustee of the Presbyterian Church here. A member of the former Welsh Male Choir, a veteran of World War I, past vice-commander, chaplain and sergeant-at-arms of the local American Legion Post, he was also a member of Twin State Barracks 2258 in Granville, New York.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Merrill of Tinmouth; one son, Hugh Hughes Jr. of Poultney; three sisters, Mrs. Ann Bromley of Pittsfield, Mass., Mrs. Myfanwy Hughes and Mrs. Catherine Pritchard, both of Poultney; one brother, Arvon Hughes of Poultney; eight grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be hled here Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Charles Syverson. Internment will be in the family lot in Poultney Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Roberts-Lantman Funeral Home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Contributions may be made to the Poultney Rescue Squad.
