Services for Gwilym L. Hughes, 72, who died Wednesday (November 12th, 1980). In All Saints Episcopal Hospital, Fort Worth, Texas after a short ilness, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in Poultney Trinity Episcopal Church.The Rev. Warren F. Fowler, assistant pastor of the Rutland Trinity Episcopal Church, will officiate.
Mr. Hughes was born July 28th, 1908, in Cesarea, North Wales, the son of Hugh R. and Ann E. (Jones) Hughes. He was a retired slate worker and a retired employee of the General Electric Co.
Mr. Hughes was a Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific. He was a member of the J Clair Carmody American Legion Post 39 of Poultney and the Falvey-Fingl Post 1653, Veterans of Foreign Wars in Granville, N. Y. He also was a member of Morning Star Lodge 37, Free and Accepted Masons.
He was the widower of Charlotte Hughes, who died in 1975.
Survivors are five sons, Hugh J. Hughes of Pownel, David T. Hughes of Pountney, Robert H. Hughes of Burlington, Richard L. Hughes of Fort Worth and Thomas C. Hughes of Burlington, Mass; teo brothers, D. Arvon Hughes of East Poultney and Robert I. Hughes of South Glens Falls, N.Y.; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Masonic services will be held at 11 p.m. Sunday at the McShane Funeral Home, 18 Bentley Avenue, Poultney. Internment will be in the Poultney Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
The family has suggested that memorials may be made in the form of contributions to the Poultney Rescue Squad in care of the funeral home and that flowers be omitted.
