John G. Owen, 80, of 1514 Genesee Street, died Friday, October 18th, 1985, at the Faxton Hospital.He was born in Bethesda, N. Wales, son of Thomas and Jane Williams Owen.
He came to the United States in 1910 and attended Utica Schools. He married Grayce D. Quinn on October 17th, 1931, in Utica.
Mr. Owen retired from the Utica Mutual Insurance Company in 1969, and then worked as a tour guide at the Utica-Rome Bus Company, retiring in 1984.
He was a member of Moriah Presbyterian Church having served as an Elder since 1949. He was a member of Liberty Lodge No. 959 F and A M, the Utica Commandry and Ziyara Shrine Temple. He was a member of Maple Valley Chapter No. 393 O.E.S. in Sauquoit and Temple Chapter No. 300 O.E.S. in Utica.
In 1978 he served as District Grand Lecturer of the Lewis-Oneida District O.E.S. Mr. Owen also served on the Executive Committee of the St. David's Society of Utica.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son and daughter-in-law, Craig S. and Janet Owen, of New Hartford; a nephew, William O. Williams, of Utica; and relatives in California, Illinois and Wales.
Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday 2-4 and 7-9. Friends may consider the Moriah Church Memorial Fund in his memory.
