POULTNEY - Ann Elizabeth (Pritchard) Jones, 102, died early Sunday morning at the Sager Nursing Home in Fair Haven She was the oldest resident in Poultney. In 1981 she was awarded the Poultney Historical Society's pewter headed honorary cane, which is awarded to the oldest resident of the town.

Mrs. Jones was born in Bethes, North Wales, on November 17th 1884, daughter of Richard and Elizabeth (Jones) Pritchard. While residing in England, she worked for the playwright Sir William Gilbert, of the Gilbert and Sullivan team.

She moved to Poultney in 1909, where she married Edwin R. Jones. For many years she lived on Grove Street. He died in 1964.

Survivors include a son, Kenneth Jones of Fair Haven; a daughter Elizabeth Atwood of Poultney; a sister Sally Schulz of New York City; 13 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren; and two nephews. Two sons predeceased her. Idris Pritchard in 1980 and Richard Jones in 1983.

A funeral service will be held at 2pm Tuesday at the Roberts-Lantman Funeral Home in Poultney. The Rev. Scott Loomer, pastor of the Poultney Presbyterian Church, will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Poultney Cemetery.

There will be no calling hours.
